"We weren't- we didn't- I- ack!" See this? This is how a giant, intimidating robot panics. Barrier Breaker ceases that after a moment of shocked, and extremely mortified stuttering and simply glowers at Aftermath after bringing his arms up protectively in front of Freefall.
Aftermath for his part, merely looks amused. His visor glows a dim, contemplative red as he glances between the two, thoroughly ruffled mechs in front of him and the chaotic mass of slime to the side before uttering a low chuckle and unsubspacing a gun.
"Well," he aims it at the mass of tentacles and lets loose two clean shots before Barrier Breaker can protest. "I suppose I'd better find out what Axiom is hiding this time."
The tentacles writhe in agony and quickly retreat, several of them burnt clean through and the scent of fried fish permeated the hallway. Now visible on the middle of the walkway, the spark container floated, dripping wet but otherwise unharmed.

Now, why didn't they think of that?
Freefall ceases his mutterings and grumblings and simply gawks as the spark container floats almost innocently in the middle of the walkway. He rubs his optics and goggles with his fleshy pink hands, blinking in disbelief.
"Uh...um..."
What else is there to say? He glances guiltily at Barrier Breaker, ears wilting. Looks like the jig is up, as they say.

Well, see, if they did that, Axiom would be Very Unhappy. And Very Disappointed. Both of which Aftermath didn't care about since he was Aftermath and he was a jerk with enough money and reputation to be apathetic about killing off someone's living merchandise.
Barrier Breaker in the meanwhile, is looking a bit horrified. It wasn't until the floating spark container darted out and towards them that he snaps out of it and snatches it out of thin air, uttering a most miffed noise, before looking back at Aftermath, optics narrowed suspiciously.
"What?" Aftermath is apparently not too surprised about a floating spark container. Now why is that?

Why is that, indeed?
A wave of relief rushes over Freefall as Barrier Breaker finally secures the meddlesome spark container. Finally, everything seems like it's gonna be okay...
...Well, it would if Aftermath would be so nice as to forget everything he just saw, and Freefall reeeeally doesn't think he's that nice a mech. Call it a hunch.

Freefall would be correct in that department. Fortunately, Aftermath also happens to know that there were certain things you didn't do when dealing with mad scientists. While shooting merchandise is fine, telling the world that there was a disembodied spark in some socially inept dude's house is crossing a bit of a line. He had, however, no problem tattle-taleing when when two bumbling youngsters were dumb enough to let aforementioned disembodied spark escape from right under their noses.
... On the other hand, that would mean he'd also be around long enough for them to tattle on him about the whole monster killing thing and Axiom's voice wasn't the most pleasant thing to have to listen to at high volumes. Hmm. Dilemma indeed.
"Well then." The grey mech shrugs, shifting his glance to the tentacles that were now beginning to float to the top of the tank. "I suppose that's enough excitement for us all in one day." He unsubspaces a business card then, a particularly sleazy grin scrawling itself under his mask.
"Call me, aye?" And he casually tosses the glowing blue piece of metal up for Freefall to catch. "Can't say I've tried anythin' semi-organic, but yer're a pretty darlin'." Then Aftermath transforms and flees before Barrier Breaker could lose all his patience and give him a thoroughly deserved beating upon.

Freefall can only blink mutely as he holds to metal card in his hands and watches Aftermath depart. For some reason, he suddenly feels very dirty.
Briskly shaking his furry head, he snaps back to attention. "We'd better grab that container before it decides to play hide and seek again."

"I... I really hate him." Barrier Breaker decides after a moment. He then glances over to Freefall, optics flickering before he shifts his focus to the spark in his hands.
Seeming to finally put two and two together, the large mechs does a brief panicky hop-dance before going over to snatch up the container.

Freefall jiggles about along with the panicky hop-dance.
"So, what do you reckon our best course of action is?" he ask as Barrier Breaker snatches up the container. He takes this moment of stillness to try and smooth out his frazzled and ruffled fur, flicking his tail as he does so.

"Well first I have to make sure you aren't going to get in trouble." Stars knew, Barrier Breaker had already dragged the poor fellow into enough of that today. He gently stuffs the spark back into it's container before looking up at Freefall, optics dimming slightly. "Sorry about all this."
He hesitates before adding softly, "I'll give this back to Axiom and tell him what happened. After I'll... I can walk you home?" The big mech asks tentatively. "It's the least I can do."

Home, Freefall ponders as he dusts himself down. Home feels like a million miles away from here. Not that it's much of a home to go back to.
Being considered a freak by the general populace doesn't offer great housing prospects, if any at all. As such, Freefall's current abode is a condemned level on a tower block in a not too pretty or friendly part of town. It's close to collapsing, but the odd steel beam here and there keeps the roof up. Still, at least nobody bothers him- a vital aspect for his research. He doesn't have to worry about the rent or anybody breaking in and disrupting his studies, which up until now has suited him fine and dandy.
But now a sense of shame starts creeping onto Freefall at the thought of having to actually show somebody else the place he calls home. What would Barrier Breaker think of him if he saw how he lived?
Still, it would be nice to have Barrier Breaker walk him home, if only to spare him the torment of the locals for once.
"Oh, er, well..." Freefall begins. "We can't go anywhere with the acid rain, at least, I can't." He smiles faintly and prods one of his webbed skin flaps. "It could get a bit...messy. No, I think, well, I think I'll have to stay here at least til it passes." He wrings his clawed hands for moment before adding, "Don't feel bad about it. It's not your fault. Really. I alway seem to get myself into one mess or another."

"Y-yeah, that's true. Oops." Of course, Barrier Breaker hadn't been out to see the rain starting but he'd still heard the warning being broadcasted over the city radios. "They said it wouldn't stop until next cycle though, so you might be in for a bit of a sleepover." And to honest, that was an idea Barrier Breaker found he was quite happy with. Well, worrying about the little fellow being eaten by Axiom's critters aside but he was pretty sure they could arrange a 'pet free' zone on relatively short notice.
Well, once the whole 'explanation for Axiom' thing was out of the way anyhow.
And once the rain was done, well. It wasn't like poor housing conditions was anything new for Barrier Breaker, especially considering this was Praxus.

An over night stay? Did an acid rain storm really last so long?
Now Freefall really is thankful he arrived here when he did. Killer tentacles, nibbling gibbys and a zoo of little beasties aside, it would be much safer for him to stay here til the rain passed. Right?
Freefall sighs. "I guess we'd better go see Axiom and sort all this out."

It was a good thing acid rainstorms only occurred once every fifty years then, wasn't it? Well, once every fifty years outside of it being induced artificially- which was probably one of the reasons they had smaller acid storms every few months or so depending on which rich mafia got bored enough to start one.
Barrier Breaker finishes meticulously eyeing the spark container for any damage before glancing up at Freefall, liquid-golden eyes cycling in a rather sheepish blink.
"I'll do that alone. You've been in a lot of trouble already. You brought back Axiom and you helped me chase after my sibling." He turns his broad helm up to give Freefall's leg a gentle bump. "Me and Axiom will get you a room set up afterward the talk, so you can be safe here for the next few hours."

Freefall jumps slightly at the gentle bump to his leg, but quickly settles and rubs the back of his head sheepishly.
"Okay, but first let's get back to Axiom before anything else happens." He really doesn't think he can take many more surprises for a while. The longer they stay here and away from the slightly safer place where Axiom is, the more nervous he begins to feel. Even if he has to face the wrath of Axiom, at least he has less chance of being attacked by tentacles.

"Well, I can't say I object to that idea at all." Barrier Breaker murmurs as he starts walking, heading back to the promise of safety that was the center of this bizarre zoo.
Come to think of it, Axiom was more like to jump in joy and celebrate the spark's birthday party rather than getting angry at them. Floating sparks were right down his alley and to have an adopted spark doing exactly that... well. Here's hoping anyways.
